Going by the calender,it is 23 days before her 53rd birthday,at which age,the sun would have begun to hide it's brilliant glow in the dusky horizon, had she been truly woman,as a woman is known to be.Hope is still very realistic to have, close as she is to that elderly age......,because she is Nigeria my beloved country,or Naija as she is fondly called by countless disillussioned but optimistic citizens, the teeming majority of whom are jobless or at best overworked and underpaid.
Leaders, great ones have come and gone over these painfull passing years, custodians of near absolute power, bereft of any willingness to positively affect the lives of a docile populace bitterly humbled by the worst species of poverty ever known to man. With the exception of a handful of Nigerian Governors,Senators,Local Government Chairmen,Special Assistants,Lecturers,Doctors,Teachers,Lawyers etc,the host of others are merely poachers in the guise of game keepers.
As this beautiful, but thoroughly plundered country prepares for her 53rd birthday, power cuts are still as common as poverty, food, good medical care, security and shelter are yet things the majority of Nigerians can only dream about. The affluent, the ruling class,Kings, their women, children and even dogs dwell and reign in the cosy mansions, cars and offices from where they brazenly and needlessly privatise the public sector of the Nigerian economy .They shamelessly perpetrate the 'Private Syndrome',they have their private water boreholes, attend private hospitals when they are sick, have private guards, put their kids in private schools, possess private electricity supply, have private tinted cars with private numbers, and private helicopters and jets.As Nigerians await another independence day speech by the gentle and soft spoken President Goodluck Jonathan,it is prayerfully hoped that it will not include a paragraph that Nigeria is now a private country. It is also hoped that his awaited speech will address the basic needs of a people in desperate despair.End.
